Natural Looking Dental Bridges

Why you should consider cosmetic bridges.

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental bridges may be the perfect solution for you. Request an appointment today with our dentist office to prevent any further tooth decay. Even the loss of one tooth can have a huge impact on your appearance as well as creating added stress on your other teeth that can lead to further issues down the line. The addition of a bridge can fill the gap (or gaps) and make sure that your other teeth and surrounding gums and bones remain healthy.

What is a bridge?

A bridge is most often created by placing crowns on the existing teeth surrounding the gap and securing artificial teeth into the gap. The artificial teeth are bonded to the newly crowned teeth to hold them in place. Dental implants are sometimes also used in place of or in addition to the bonding method. Bridges can also be placed onto natural teeth without the additional step of adding crowns. Dr. Nozaki will be able to inform you what best will work for you individually.

What is involved in cosmetic bridgework?

The procedure involved with receiving bridges usually takes multiple visits to ensure a perfect, comfortable fit.

If you need crowns placed prior to your bridge, the teeth to be capped will require a bit of preparation before crowns can be placed. This can be done on the first visit. Impressions of your teeth will be made so that artificial teeth can be manufactured in the right size and shape for your mouth. A temporary bridge can be placed to protect exposed areas in your mouth until you're ready for your permanent bridge.

When you are ready to have the permanent bridge placed, Dr. Nozaki will adjust it and make sure that it is fitting correctly and comfortably. Occasionally there are issues with the shape or size that need to be re-addressed and this depends on each individual's circumstances. For a fixed bridge, it may be temporarily cemented into place so you can make sure it feels and performs correctly before permanently sealing it in place. Not all bridges are permanent fixtures and some can be removed. Dr. Nozaki can discuss these details with you to best aid your individual needs.

How do I care for my dental bridge and how long will it last?

Step By Step Cosmetic Bridge GuideThose with bridges are to perform regular oral hygiene steps: brushing, flossing and rinsing twice a day. Maintaining good oral care can help your bridge last as long as possible. The length of life for a bridge can vary depending on different factors but with good at-home care and regular visits to the dentist for check-ups, a bridge can easily last ten or more years.

The lifespan of a bridge also relies on the surrounding teeth, gums, and bone. Making sure to brush and floss your surrounding natural teeth can help to keep your bridge comfortably and securely in place without issue. Strong jaw bones and healthy gums are also vital for not only maintaining your bridge but maintaining general oral health as well.
